MARANEMAN 2011
Monday morning, at last the day had arrived
A buzz of excitement filled the hall
Mrs. Van Loggerenberg welcomed the parents and children with pride
Important instructions, buses loaded, final goodbyes ……..
Here we come Maraneman, ready to have a ball!
Reaching our destination,
We began our Adventure Camp with great anticipation.
The week is headed up by our many young ‘Lieutenants’
Some short, some tall, some gentle, some loud
All friendly, cool, assertive and by NO MEANS HESITANT.
Our groups were formed and named:
CHEESWAKKERS; LIGRAFISH; HIPPOLIONESSAFLY
Warcries were sung and the competition was now on.
MOOLAH was awarded to each team that flew high,
CHOMPIE: THE IMMUNITY IDOL was given after each challenge was won.
Lessons were taught on day one,
When grade 6’s with listening difficulties faced the, “OTTERSGAT”:
A swim in a pool of black mud and rotting foliage!
“Shoo, julle stink! Gaan weg van ons pad af!” skree die onderwyseresse
Listening skills improved instantly, the start of a clean and happy page.
From raft building to memory games, to obstacle courses and balancing water,
Some teams excelled as they learnt to gel.
While, others gave up before the end bell.
Doing the Switch and playing Nuc’um
Was definitely a hit with all of them.
Encouraged, assisted and cheered on by all
Especially Mrs. Ralph, Mrs. Grinwis, Mr. Heine and Miss Langkilde,
The children braved the Obstacle Course,
Tall nets, long slides and high walls, Ottersgat and all,
With anxiety and apprehension and a determination greater than any famous fielder.
They came out tops surprising themselves, feeling great joy.
“Wow, I did it! I’m not such a flop. I too can be a successful girl or boy.”
Stalk the lantern, faces black including Miss Langkilde and Mr. Heine too.
What fun it was to crawl in the grass and outsmart the lantern keeper.
Camaraderie, teamwork and fulfillment true.
Friday arrived far too fast
We had braved the sun, the wind and the rain
We had shown what we were made of
Hippolionessafly came out tops, living the statement: “NO PAIN, NO GAIN.”
We had grown as a team of Grade 6’s 2011, ready to meet the challenges of 2012.
Farewells were said and thank yous were made
We boarded the buses all a little tired and worn,
We headed home knowing we gave it our all.
We had braved the storm and won
Maraneman memories were definitely formed.
